You guys. It is less than a month until my birthday (I am turning older than 30 and old enough to have a 10 year old. Gray hairs prove it. Long brown hairs hide it.), about a month until Christmas, and I have had to think when my hubby and mom asked me what I want.
I want answers to questions and life situations.
I present to you, 5 favorite gift ideas for mamas.
1-Coffee/tea mug from
Wonderfully Made (apparently no longer available, but a mug with a neat saying would be great!)
2-Date with the gifter, to a movie, to lunch, to high tea (yes, really! Think how fun and vintage and lovely that would be!), to thrifting, whatever.
3-Geek stuff: My favorites are Harry Potter and Doctor Who. There are so many options! Socks, ornaments, jewelry, key chains, shirts, books…
4-A good new read. I know, I am slowly turning into a bibliophile. Maybe I should have warned you, Mom and Dad, if you are reading this. Book ideas for moms: Book ideas for moms: “How to Sew a Button and Other Nifty Things Your Grandmother Knew“, “Holy Women” by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, “The Nesting Place: It Doesn’t Have to Be Beautiful” Confession: Those are on my wish list. Also a winner: gift cards to a book store. It’s so fun to browse a book store and find a new book to read.
5-Babysitting. Enough said.
Gifts for Couples:
1-Babysitting. Date night.
2-Movie tickets, or a gift subscription to Netflix or Hulu
3-Gift certificate to a local restaurant
4-Bottle of wine
5-Gift certificate towards an experience, such as a class, cooking demo, rock climbing, just something to be enjoyed together.
Gifts for kids of all ages:
1-Kiwi Crate (affiliate of sorts: I earn credit when you subscribe through my link, you also earn credit) is a box of fun. I love this gift, because the crafts are do-able, the “lessons” and mini-stories with the crafts are fun, and kids love them. We have had Kiwi Crate in the past for my boys. Now the company added a few new box offerings, which I am crazy excited about. Doodle Crate is for girls ages 9ish and up, and Tinker Crate is for kids ages 9ish and up. Doodle Crate has crafts older girls in the tween and teen ages will enjoy, and Tinker Crate has more engineering and building sorts of activities. Sign up through my referral link and get $10 off!
A similar box idea for the younger kids is Citrus Lane. You can customize the box for age and gender. I’ve really enjoyed these for my baby/toddler. Use this link for 50% ogf your first box!
2-Audio books: We just started listening to novels and fantasy audio books a few months ago, and it is such an enjoyable way to spend time in the car, and a great way to hear more stories. I mean, there is only so much time I can spend reading aloud. But, in about 6 weeks, we listened to 5 Narnia stories…and normally it takes me that long to finish one story at home as a read aloud. Try these titles for starters: Any and all Chronicles of Narnia stories,
4-Passes to indoor trampoline parks, bowling, any fun indoor activity to beat to winter chill.
5-Tiny Saints charms are adorable depictions of favorite saints, and perfect stocking stuffers. This year, they also have a board book for little ones. Oh, and how could I forget their bracelets and rosaries? Last year, I bought my girls the bracelets (my 8 yr old especially likes hers), and this year I ordered the board book for our toddler. I love Tiny Saints, too. I have Blessed Teresa of Calcutta on my keys.
Gifts for families:
2-Family-friendly DVD and popcorn for family movie night
3-Outdoor games, such as a giant Jenga, ring toss, corn hole…
4-A book of family-friendly hikes in the area and trail mix or other snacks
5-Gift certificate towards a fun experience: bowling, indoor rock-climbing, trampoline park…
Seeing a theme here? Most things aren’t going to gather dust and take up space in a house. AND they are things which will make memories and build relationships, and *that* is so much more meaningful, don’t ya think?
