Embrace the Ordinary, 2018 vol. 1

“…there is something holy, something divine hidden in the most ordinary situations, and it is up to each one of you to discover it.”  St. Josemaria Escriva, Passionately Loving the World

(This year, I’m getting back to the heart of my blog, which is real-life stories and lessons, and some of those are the simplest, most ordinary things which contain hidden bits of the divine.)

“Walk?”

“You want to take Stevie for a walk with me?”

“Yeah!”

“Ok, buddy, let’s get your shoes on.”

Sometimes dressed, most days in jammies and the cutest knit pom-pom hat, he races out the door with me.

“Dat way!”, pointing down the street which way we should walk the dog (always the opposite direction the dog wants to go).

He runs ahead with the twisty, dancing, wadding run only a two year old can do without tripping himself. Then he stops, points out a bird, and runs on. Watching this run always brings a smile to my face, no matter how dreary the day is.

Sometimes he only wants to be held, which honestly makes me a little bit crazy, but at the same time I cherish (or try to) the time left that he’s small enough and still wants to be held and carried.
