5 Favorites: Mama’s Favorite Reads

Jenna is bringing back “5 Favorites” and I’m delighted to join in the fun this week. Not only did she inspire another post for me, it just is a smidge-a-bit about more to learn about me, in case you wondered. What else do you wonder? Do ask. I’ll answer.

It’s all about book and e-book love right here. In no particular order, my list:favereads

It’s all about book and e-book love right here. In no particular order, my list:

{five}
52 Saints for Catholic Moms by Lisa Hendey

{four}
Teaching from Rest by Sarah at Amongst Lovely Things blog

{three}
Harry Potter (series) by J.K. Rowling

{two}
Mother’s Rule of Life by Holly Pierlot

{one}
Something Other Than God by Jennifer Fulwiller

Yes, it is true that 4/5 are “self-help”/faith/schooling books…but I can’t help it. I have never read much fiction. Maybe one day I will read more, but at the rate I am going, I will be 60 years old before I am done homeschooling and have time to read for fun. By then, I’ll probably just read through Harry Potter again, because it’s so fun. Any fave reads you’d suggest to me, for when I’m 65 and need a new book?

  1. Well… since *I’m* not yet 65, I can’t help you with that! But, some fiction I enjoy re-reading: Lord of the Rings, the Steven Lawhead “Pendragon” series (the Arthurian legend), and anything by C S Lewis!

  2. You recommended the saints book before and I’ve had it on my amazon wish list since then! I’m hoping I may find it in my Christmas stocking … 🙂 (come to think of it though, I’m not sure my husband even knows I have an wish list…)

    I’ve read your numbers 1, 2, and 4. And I’ve read the first Harry Potter, but stopped b/c I watched the second movie and kind of got weirded out. But you and many other fabulous people recommend the books so maybe I’ll have to give them another try and just forgot the movies. Do you have any thoughts on the books vs. the movies?

    Finally, have you heard about Micaela’s on-line book club/discussion? (from California to Korea) This month they are reading fiction by catholic authoress Rumer Godden – she’s one of my favorite authors and the book Micaela chose happens to be one of my favorite books – “Five for Sorrow, Ten for Joy” (referring to the mysteries of the rosary – before the Luminous were added, of course 🙂 ) It’s not too long of a book if you were interested in joining it! Might be funnnnnn! I’m planning to participate b/c I love the author/book so much, but like you, I hardly have time for fiction any more. I read mostly the same type of stuff as you and the occasional history book. I’m saving up fiction for when I’m empty-nester 🙂
