A Visit With Jesus

| | |

I remember maybe one or two visits to Adoration from my youth. I didn’t understand much of it and didn’t think I knew how to pray.

In high school and college, Adoration changed for me when there was praise and worship music. But not until the last few years did I learn to sit with the Lord, to chat with Him, to listen and rest in His presence.

During one of my visits last year, I had all my children with me, and my frustrations with them grew by the minute. It was not a prayerful time. I was sad and mad and knew something needed to change.

I lowered my expectations. Reminded myself that Jesus was probably still happy to see my restless, noisy boys. And I prayed about how to encourage my children to pray and know the Lord’s presence.

(We’re still working on this.)

The idea to write a journal for children to use in Adoration started growing that day. Week after week, the idea settled in. I asked the Holy Spirit to lead, if I was really meant to write a book for children to pray with in Adoration.

I scribbled notes in a blank notebook while sitting in waiting rooms. Using the Bible app and Google, I read through various Psalms for inspiration. I mentioned the idea to a few people, seeking validation and initial feedback. Would people even be interested in this journal?

The Holy Spirit kept leading, and now. .

It’s finally here. A first look at the inside of the Adoration journal for children.

Children's Adoration Journal

My hope is to help children learn to enter into a conversation with the Lord, centered on His word. There are 19 Psalms and reflections. I wrote questions for children to think about and left room to write prayers and thoughts.

The coloring pages compliment the Psalms. Two are illustrated by Rakhi McCormick of rakstardesigns.com–I think they’re fabulous.

I also left blank pages for drawing or journaling. I know that children relate to the Lord in many ways, and wanted to have space for them to express their hearts in their own unique way.
