Clean Home Confession Time

|

Once upon a time, I used all the store-bought cleaners. Shower cleaner, tub scrubber, toilet bowl stuff…all laden with crappy chemicals. The smell…ugh.

And then we had kids. I didn’t want to have all the stuff anymore, so I learned how I could clean easily and more safely with baking soda and vinegar. WOW. My mind was blown. I could seriously clean with that?! I tried it, and it worked. Used it everywhere I could…but I still was using a spray from the store for mirrors, and we still sometimes used bleach when the tubs were especially funky, and our shower floors are never pretty. What is up with that?! Does anyone have a trick for shower floors?

And then I tried bleach-containing products again. I know, I know. The horror. I just cannot get a shower floor clean to SAVE MY LIFE. Honest. The floor of our shower is spotty and grey. Ick. And sometimes we get mold. Be honest, you do, too.

A few months ago, laziness and curiosity got the best of me, and I ordered a box subscription for “natural” cleaning products. They also do diapers and stuff…you might know which company I’m talking about. A celebrity is behind it… So I was lazy with cleaning and mixing and DIY, and curious. And there was an offer for the first box. So I took the bait and tried it.

You know what? I am not impressed. The “all-purpose” cleaner which is supposed to be good on floors, leaves residue. So I had to pull out my trusty all-purpose vinegar spray and clean the floors again. I don’t have time for that! The cleaners don’t really smell that nice, either. The bathroom cleaner? Not any better than in smell (as I just said) or effectiveness than other cleaners, particularly homemade cleaners.

So today, guess what I did?

I called the company up and said, “I need to cancel my subscription.” When they asked why (as all places do when you cancel, except of course for my kids’ previous public school but that’s another story), I HONESTLY told the kind man on the phone, “Because of the cost, and I like my homemade cleaners better.” True story. I was that honest.

I’m coming clean. I really do like homemade cleaners better than almost anything else…now if I could just find a good cleaner for my shower…

Any ideas?

  1. I use natural cleaners too, but the only thing I have found that works on my shower floor is comet. The 79 cent bleach containing stuff. It works!
