Thinking about:

I’m thinking about a few things in particular lately, one being how to fit some fitness into my day. Even today, I was up at 6:30am, but there hasn’t been time without feeding boys, cleaning the kitchen, prepping for a morning out. Do I need to get up even earlier? Put on a few cartoons for the boys while I work up a sweat? Next month I’ll be starting a new series about fitness for women, with several great guest bloggers, sharing their goals and personal routines. Hopefully that will help me!

Also on my mind: when to allow my girls to have an email address. No one needs/wants to email them yet, but I have been considering also setting them each up with a Goodreads account so they can keep track of what they read this year. So many things can be learned if I let them do that–computer skills, reviewing books, keeping track of what they read, searching for authors and titles on the website… Thoughts? When have your kids gotten their first email address and other online accounts?

Reading:

I just finished some books! Now I’m going to read “The Little Oratory”. Besides that, we’re about to start up with our formal studies again, so it’ll be a lot of books about Colorado, US History, and the books the girls have chosen to read.

Listening to:

The same ol’ tunes on my playlist. Soon we’ll be listening to some new tunes, though. I’ve decided to loop our music study (or not study, but what we listen to and hopefully learn to at least recognize, if not become familiar with) as part of our homeschool year. The idea of looping came to me from both “Plan Your Year” and “Teaching From Rest“. My plan is to start out listening to movie soundtracks, then move to American patriotic songs, then some music by the masters like Mozart, Back, Strauss, etc. I’ll play the music during chore-time, in the car, during lunch, as a pick-me-up in the afternoon…

Watching:

My baby is starting to walk! We’ve been watching him take toddling, wobbly steps the last few days. The big kids find it incredibly amusing. It’s fun to watch *them* get so excited for their baby brother’s milestones.

Thankful for:

Beautiful days and long walks with my brood. We tried geocaching the other day, and didn’t find the cache. However, we had a nice walk, enjoyed the fresh air, and loved the grove we found. God is good.

  1. I have so much trouble trying to figure out how to fit some fitness time into my life. I work about 9 hours a day nannying for a 1 year old, so he keeps me busy but not busy enough to get a good workout in. I’ll totally have to check out that series!

    1. Right? I am on my feet all day, but I need/want something better/more. Looking forward to having you around for the series! Stay tuned for when it begins. 🙂

  2. What a sweet family you have! The walking milestone is definitely up there as one of my favorites so far, I think the next will be when Scarlett starts talking a bit more 🙂

I worry about how and when to introduce technology, email, social media, etc. to Scarlett and she’s only just under 2!

  3. I am so glad you stopped by my blog because now I’ve come over here and decided we have to be friends.
The fitness thing has been on my mind for awhile too. Lately I’ve been trying to incorporate it into my day with my daughter. Granted, I only have one kid so it’s probably a lot easier for me. But I’ve been “running” (ugh, it’s super slow) while she bikes beside me, or I push her in her stoller. I’ve also been doing a lot of biking. I put her in the bike trailer and we will bike somewhere that I normally would drive to (the library, the grocery store, etc).
No idea how to answer the email question but I really like the idea of setting kids up with a goodreads account, what a great way for them to keep track!
I’d LOVE to homeschool one day though I’m not sure my extremely extroverted daughter will let me. I’m currently thinking of putting her in a Christian school for kindergarten and then maybe homeschooling after. I’m definitely going to check out those books you recommended.
    Phew! Sorry for the novel!

    1. Yea! I’m glad you popped on over! We will be blog friends. 🙂 Not like I wasn’t commenting up a storm on your page today or anything. hehe

Extroverted kids/introverted kids–doesn’t make a difference in my experience. Then again, I have 5. One of them is CRAZY extroverted. We just get involved in other outside activities. Those also help the introverts, too.

Anyway. There’s time to decide. Every year is different.

As for fitness, so far this summer, the kids and I have been out on walks or hikes at least once a week, so we’ve gotten about 10 or 11 miles racked up so far. It’s good, and good for all of us, but I need something more for me. Maybe I have to set the alarm for 5:30am.

  4. Coming from the Currently link-up (first time joining!). Love your currently and that fun picture of your kids. If you figure out how to fit fitness in your day I am all ears! This mama is in need of shedding some and getting toned! Glad I found my way here to your beautiful space on the web! 🙂 We are planning on homeschooling so I’ll also be clicking around here for that too! It’s uncharted territory but we feel called!

    1. So happy you found me, Amanda!! I do hope you’ll come back by the blog when I have more posts, especially about fitness. And feel free to email me if you have any questions, homeschool-related or not!

  5. My boys already have email addresses. They are 3 & 5. But I only did that bc who knows what handles will be available in 10 years. And of course they don’t use it yet. I’m so happy to hear you are trying to add fitness in your life. I always try to include the kids. Whether it’s walking, hiking, or popping in a workout DVD. There’s lots of great workouts on YouTube too. I just squeeze it in where I can.

    1. I never thought to check YouTube for workouts! That is a good idea. I’m going to try to do a quick cross-fit this morning. Do you have any favorite types of workouts?

  6. I agree. I am having a hard time fitting in fitness. With working full time, being a mom and taking care of the house, life, etc. …it is hard. AND, I like sleep. That is the other hard part! haha
I do workout, just not enough.

Awww….beautiful photo. Fresh air & being outside with my children is my favorite place to be!!

Stopping by from the link up, I am Becky with Choose Happy 🙂

    1. Hi, Becky!
Finding time to workout is so hard. I also like to just stay in bed! I know it would help if was in bed at a reasonable hour; getting up early would be easier if I was to sleep before 11pm. 😉
