Linking up with Jenna, because it’s been awhile and this is one of the link-ups I’ve love the most.

A Mama Collective

Thinking about: Oodles of things. Keeping myself on track with my health, for one. You remember my fitness series? And my honest post about how well I didn’t do in August? Well, I’m here (sweaty), thinking how good it was to wake up this morning and spend 20 minutes with silence, some dumbbells, and a workout found on Pinterest. Also, I will be intentional about planning some afternoon dance parties with the kids. AND!! This weekend, the whole family kicked butt in a fun-run at our parish. It was awesome. Even our least-active kiddo told us he had fun on the run. Total win!! It was great. Our oldest, Chickadee, placed 3rd in the girls’ group, and while no one else “placed”, I ran my best 5K in 32:24. That’s a whole 2 minutes faster than I ran last year!

Another thing on my mind: music lessons for the kids. I played piano for years, so I *could* give them a decent introduction…but do I want to? Is that best? What if they don’t want to play? What do you do in your family? Do you just encourage your kids to try an instrument, or is it something everyone needs to try for at least a year and then you reevaluate? Help me with this.

Reading: School has started, yo. The girls and I are about to dive back in to Harry Potter and study it with a Brave Writer “Arrow” guide. Also, since this week is the anniversary of 9-11, we’re going to be reading a few books that help the kids learn about this tragic and important day in our history.

Reading for me this week is going to include the e-books in the amazing Ultimate Health Bundle. You’re going to want to check that out. Clearly, I’m excited about this since I’m really trying to be —intentional— about my health, fitness, and smarter living.

Lavender at Lake Balaton,Hungary Get Up and Go!Natural Homestead

There are books about essential oils, fitness with your family (can’t WAIT to get more ideas from that one!),  gardening and homesteading, meal planning, meal budgeting, natural beauty (also can’t wait for this one!), healthy children, and more! The covers above are a tiny sample of the e-books I am really excited to read and learn with. (**yes, I am an affiliate with the bundle. Please consider supporting me with this–the deal won’t last long and you get SO SO many great books about healthy living, bonuses , and when you support me, I’ll be able to offer more towards Cameron and his hope to have a diabetic guide dog. Thanks!!**)

Also reading the new daily devotions at Blessed Is She. Have you joined us yet? It is a beautiful thing to know so many women are reading the same Scriptures daily, and to have a lovely reflection with them. God is at work in this. Please join us.

Listening to: I could use some new tunes. What are you faves right now? And, since it’s school time, we’ll be turning on the classics again, listening to Brahms, Strauss, and more. I like having music on at certain points during the day, for the calming effect (also sometimes energizing!), and for an introduction to different composers and types of music. This term, we’ll be listening to classic composers.

Thankful for: Cooler fall days, happy children’s voices, all the bloggers spreading the word about Cameron (praying for more donations!), the amazing time we had at the run, a fresh start every morning.

  1. I hadn’t participated in currently for a while either. It’s nice to be back! I wish I could say we were having cool fall days in Alabama, but it’s still so hot. Thankfully it looks like it will be (hopefully) cooling down a little. I love fall!

  2. I am stopping by from the link-up. Hi! Congrats on your 2 min time shave! That is something to be super proud of! I love working out but I hate running, I know the health benifits I try and have set a goal to run 3 times a week.

    1. Thanks! That is a good goal. I often only manage one day a week…so I am going to at least try to get some cardio a few other days with different in-home workouts.

  3. Loved the post! On the topic of music lessons, I would say yes encourage them. Yet, offer them a choice of several that you could put up with in the early stages of practice! LOL My mom hung in my first year of saxophone when I, as she later put it, “sounded like a dying moose”. I went on to do very well, and played in concert, marching and solo competitions. Enjoy the ride! 🙂

  4. I love that y’all are reading Harry Potter for school! So fun! I play classical music throughout the day too. It is extremely calming, and it seems to keep me on task for some reason. My little one loves it too!

  5. I hopped over from the Currently link up.
I am actually looking for an online tutorial of how to read music. I never could, though I can sing. I think I could pick it up, and the counts too. My child wants to take music. I think we’ll start with piano or violin, but I’m not sure.
Pandora Radio – I love it. Pick and artist and it plays similar ones. I have everyone from the Osmonds (don’t judge – ha) to KC & The Sunshine Band and Chris Rice, Matt Maher and Laura Story. Great stuff. Show tunes too. There is a Mozart Lullaby Station that plays some great folky music. Uplifting.
Anyway – I will go check out your fitness series. Blessings,
    Emily

    1. Hey Emily!
Pandora is a great idea. I should pay better attention to the songs that play when I like them. 😉

Good luck finding a music lesson. I think we’ll start on piano/keyboard and see what “sticks”. Maybe I’ll end up having some take lessons elsewhere.

  6. Great job on the workouts you have done! I love that you’re trying to be more intentional with your health and lifestyle! My husband and I talk about this often but the plan of action gets away from us on our day to day. We love Pandoras classical music for day time and we make a YouTube playlist filled with Audrey Assad and Matt mahar.
