Holiday To-Do List: What I Probably Won’t Accomplish

I’m a list-maker. And a list-loser. I have issues with too many lists, on too many papers, in too many notebooks. Once I tried keeping all my shtuffs in Evernote…but that really didn’t help. I think it made things worse. Recently I found out about bullet journals…but that’s for another day to share. Maybe. In any case, I’m trying to organize my lists and notes in nice notebooks and thereby maintain some sort of order in my chaotic little swirling mess of random thoughts and to-dos.

Did you get that? I make too many lists. And then never finish everything.

But hey, I’m gonna make a list or twelve again for the month of November, and hope to finish about one fifth of the to-dos before Advent. I have 25  23 days. Better get crackin’.

1-Plan birthday for soon-to-be 10 year old daughter. What?! I am actually old enough to have a 10 year old. I am still surprised by this fact, daily.
2-Plan Thanksgiving, to include menu, decor (’cause of course I want a fall/gratitude decorated home for Thanksgiving! I {heart} Thanksgiving), where family visitors will sleep, and whether or not we’ll do the family fun run that morning.
3-Plan birthday for soon-to-be 5 year old son (the day AFTER Thanksgiving. This means three celebrations in 7 days. How much sangria should I make for that week?), and whether or not we will attend a football game on/for his birthday.
4-Purchase all needed food and decor and gifts and what-not for above three celebrations.
5-Create plan of gifts for family (including the above birthdays, my niece’s birthday, my brother-in-law’s birthday).
6-Choose a few handmade gifts to make with kids.
7-Take family photo for Christmas cards.
8-Edit photo.
9-Create Christmas card.
10-Enjoy some sangria, or wine and chocolate.
11-Watch a few holiday movies.
12-Address and stuff Christmas cards.
13-Mail cards.
14-Attend Advent parish penance service.
15-Sort through Christmas decor and books and movies and choose which to use this year.
16-Wrap 25 books for the kids to open, one each day, during December.
17-Find Advent wreath.
18-Attend parish women’s Advent tea and prayer service. (can’t wait for this!)
19-Continue homeschooling.
20-Go on a date with my hubby.
21-Consider hanging lights this year.22-Re-consider the lights, because there are no stinkin’ outdoor outlets on this house.
23-Try really hard to ignore all the Christmas things which are out on display far too early.
24-Remember those gifts you planned, Gina? Oh yeah…those…BUY THEM.
25-Wrap gifts.
26-Sort through current stash of toys and see what can be donated, because, not even five children need all this shtuff.

Yeah…You do realize I consider every single one of these important. And I’ll be miffed if I don’t do all of them. So…if you don’t hear from me, now you know why. I’m buried under my own to-do pile.

p.s. You still have time to enter for the devotional giveaway! Go forth and check it out! That is one Advent thing I *won’t* be slacking on–adding some prayer and peace and quiet to my days.

  1. Ugh. We don’t have outdoor outlets in our front yard only the back. AND my husband is convinced that if anything gets plugged into an outdoor outlet and it rains the house will catch fire. So no lights for us either.

  2. I love this list! You’ve given me so many ideas of what to include on my own. My favorites involve sangria, date with hubby, and hanging lights 🙂
Now, about these gifts you have planned? I struggle every year with what to get my husband and kids. Why don’t I write down my ideas all year long as they come to me?? When you remember your ideas, send ’em my way. Maybe it will help get my wheels turning and solve my never-know-what-to-get-anybody-when-I-wait-till-December annual problem.
(and the ladies’ tea and prayer service sounds lovely!)

    1. Well, my hubby and I don’t do gifts for each other, just a few small stocking stuffers. Kids are always hard, though! They grow up and their interests change…and girls are becoming harder and harder to buy for.
