Lent 2020: When We All Homeschool

| | | | |

I’d like to laugh about how almost the entire nation is homeschooling now. The memes about homeschoolers are funny, to be sure. But, this is HARD. It’s painful. It’s unexpected, unplanned, surreal.

What a lenty Lent!

And while this crazy new life we’re collectively living is so unplanned, God has a plan for us.

“I know the plans I have for you . . . plans for your welfare . . . to give you a future with hope.”

(Jeremiah 29:11)

That future might come in our lifetime (and I SO hope it does), but what God means in the long run is our future WITH HIM.

NOW matters in the long run.

Yes, even this painful, frustrating, social distancing time when our children are all home with us 24/7 with no outside activities to help burn off energy and give us space. There is no social distancing in the home! (I mean, I could send everyone to a different corner, but I’d rather not run a jail. This is a home!)

So. As the second week of this lenty Lent begins, I’m determined to try again to make a darn good effort at doing my personal best. My personal best in encouraging my children to do their personal best. My personal best to pass on just a little more of our beloved faith each day. I have so many more opportunities now! If I’m not actively instructing about our faith, I can certainly be offering mercy when they insult each other and refuse to follow directions, and asking forgiveness when I snap and snarl. That alone is a living witness of mercy, amiright? (I can’t be alone is the snapping department.)

Trusting that God has a plan (because if I don’t trust Him, what and whom do I trust?), I must enter this week by surrounding to Him. And then it’s up to me to pick up the cross and move forward. One step at a time. One prayer with my children. One math problem solved. One story read. One tiny moment at a time.

We’ve been thrust into this more intense way of life and it can feel so foreign that we don’t know what do to first. Or next. What is the next best thing to do, what can I pray, what will bless my family right now? How do I lean in to the cross and Lent AND take care of my family in these crazy days?

Thank goodness for the internet and social media in our time. We are not without support! This week, the Catholic Mom Bundle team has an offering for moms to help with these weeks of social distancing, no school, and Lent.

I’ve already had a sneak preview, so I’m trying to figure out my favorite offer . . .

  • The beautiful Lenten coloring pages, including a full Stations of the Cross set (we’ll use these during our next trip to Adoration)
  • a guide on soothing childhood anxiety (so far we’re good, but I can see anxiety creeping in)
  • a novena booklet + printable for my favorite prayer right now: the prayer of surrender to Jesus.

Normally, all these + more in the bundle sell for over $200, or they aren’t even available outside a bundle set.

You could pay only $25 (the regular price). But in this time of quarantine and trial, we’d like to offer some extra help. If the regular price is out of reach, feel free to pick a price you’re comfortable with. You’ll get over 20 resources in addition to what I mentioned above for that one low price. The bundle includes products for spiritual growth, marriage, mom’s faith, and family life.

We most likely won’t know yet how God’s plans turn out for us. Ultimately what He wants is our hearts, and our happiness with Him in heaven. Building our domestic church now is a great step in the right direction.

Are you in? Click here to name your price and get your bundle. You’ll find my (mini) Adoration bundle + special pages for Moms! You can pray at your church if it’s open, OR online with live Adoration!
