On Loving Your Children

22.5 hours of my days are typically spent in the presence of my children. Being a homeschooling family, that’s just the way it is. The 1.5 hours not in their presence are either quick errands, or moments stolen away in the bathroom. (Yes, it’s true, we mothers do actually sneak away for a quick magical moment away from the kids, in the bathroom)

And yet, my kids still want special time with me (and Daddy!). There are a so many ways to make this happen, and I’m committed this year to making it happen more often for my family. I’ll post back now and then with ideas, or favorites of the kids’ after we’ve had a special date.

To get your creative juices flowing, though, here are some simple ideas if you’re looking for ways to spend some quality time with your kids, but feel stumped.

*Watch a movie with an older child after the younger siblings go to bed (which, by the way, is what inspired this post. My oldest and I are going to watch Harry Potter in about 5 minutes)

*Pack a picnic lunch and go to the park

*Have hot cocoa at the bookstore, if they have a cafe

*Go out for the serve-yourself frozen yogurt

*Play games, and let your child choose the games

*Take silly photos of yourselves

*Have a dance party in the living room

Sometimes, I find myself wondering “what should I do” to help my kids have a good time, be silly, and feel loved and connected to me…and then I realize all these ideas are so fun and simple…I just need the reminder to do them! Go, have fun with your kids, and share your ideas in the comments!

  1. I love reading your posts! Such good ideas for the future, though I haven’t the slightest what the future holds. I personally feel like homeschooling will not work for me, but it’s good to see that someone can spend 22.5hrs in the presence of other people and still remain sane 🙂

    1. Aww, thanks!

You never know about homeschooling. We’ve been in and out of it a few times, and I keep coming back to it. Some people do really well in a traditional school setting, though.

Did I say sane? 😉 Yes, I do, mostly stay sane. I tell you what, my online social life helps a lot. hehe
