Make Every Day Blessed — a book review!

| | |

Making every day blessed, seeking God and His blessings each day, is what I do. It’s what being a someday-saint is about. Leaning in to the crosses of each day while pursuing holiness is my jam. Ha! I’d rather skip the cross, to be perfectly honest, but there’s not a way to heaven without it. And so here I am, one day at a time, doing my best with the graces He’s given me. Small steps every day. Everyday holiness.

Because today is all we have.

It’s no surprise that I’m delighted to read and review this book by my friend Jen Frost from Faith and Fabric. “Make Every Day Blessed: Living the Liturgical Year” is one book in a series of journals for Catholic women, published by OSV.

Let’s dig right in. “Make Every Day Blessed: Living the Liturgical Year” is for you if:

  • you’re a beginner to liturgical living in the home and feel overwhelmed by the options
  • you enjoy praying through the year. This book is a prayer journal, with the aim of helping you find a personal way to live the liturgical year!
  • want to add something extra to your domestic church but you are short on time and aren’t looking to add celebrations for every saint’s feast day.
  • you want to live the liturgical year in a way that suits your family, your specific gifts, your unique walk with the Lord.
  • you like to read your books in small chunks and let the message simmer.
  • adding color to your journals makes your soul sing. There are coloring pages begging for your markers and colored pencils to bring them to life.

“Make Every Day Blessed” has 7 chapters, each walking through a different part liturgical living. As we near Advent, this is a perfect time to pick up this journal! You’ll start reading about the liturgical year in general, complete with prayers, questions for reflection, Scripture, and relatable stories from Jen’s life. I think the prayers incorporated into this book are what truly set this apart from any other liturgical living book I have read. With the prayers and Scriptures, I’m invited to talk with the Lord about how to best celebrate Him and the traditions of our faith in my life with my family. It’s refreshing and meaningful.

Chapters 2-6 cover Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, the Triduum and Easter, and Ordinary Time. The final chapter brings it all together again. Each chapter includes personal stories from Jen, as if she’s talking to you like a friend, Scripture verses, reflection questions, journaling space. It truly is a “living book” to pray with and grow through the year as a Catholic woman of faith while you invite the Lord into your daily life.

  1. Is this a book about creating specific traditions within your home, learning to pray through the various seasons, or perhaps both?
